Old school leadership techniques are no longer enough. Leaders firstly need to lead by example. No one wants to report to a leader who is on the verge of burnout and can barely take care of themselves. If you want to attract a high performance team, you need to exhibit high performance characteristics.

In addition, we find many leaders are already in high performance mode but can’t understand why the team “can’t keep up” or “be just like me”. Humans are built differently and therefore the way one person operates won’t be the same as the way another person operates to achieve high performance levels.

So as a leader it is important to know how to coach others to your high level of sustained performance, but in ways which work for them and not necessarily for you.
